Health Insurance

During the summer of 2007, health insurance laws in Massachusetts changed. To sum up, all residents of Massachusetts are required to carry health insurance as of 7/1/07. For more information on these regulations, please visit the website of the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector. The Commonwealth Connector also provides information on insurance plans made available through the state.

For information on the Simmons College health insurance plan, provided by University Health Plans, see:

The Health Insurance section of the Career Resource Library's Transitions: Classroom to Career Survival Guide contains a wealth of useful information and links regarding other health insurance and health care options.

Prescription Coverage Through the Simmons Health Insurance Plan

The Simmons College health insurance plan includes prescription coverage via reimbursement. This means that for each prescription you get, you must pay the pharmacy in full at the time of pickup. You then submit your receipt, the info sheet that comes with your prescription and a claim form (PDF available here) to the insurance company. If your prescription is covered, within a few weeks they will mail you a check for the cost of the medication minus the co-pay. For example, if a covered prescription costs $50 and the co-pay is $10, you will get a check for $40. For details on whether or not your medication is covered and the amount of the co-pay, contact the insurance company.

Health Center

The Simmons College Health Center provides some services to all students on a walk-in and by-appointment basis. The Health Center is "staffed by registered nurses, nurse practitioners and physicians. All physicians are Board Certified and have appointments at Harvard Medical School and at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center."
