Director, Carnegie-Stout Public Library
Susan Henricks has been the Director of the Carnegie-Stout Public Library in Dubuque, Iowa since 2002. She holds a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa. Henricks' bachelor's degree in Sociology influenced her master's thesis topic which was "Reading Area Use in a Public Library: Seating Choice, Frequency of Use, Duration of Visit and Comfort Level by Gender."
Henricks' first career was in business, which changed with a move from her native Illinois to rural Iowa where she started working at the local public library that served the community's population of less than 700. Her love of small libraries took root there and later she worked in a regional library system providing consulting and continuing education for small libraries in Southeast Iowa. Henricks' experience in these libraries has influenced the direction of her research interests as she plans to apply it for the benefit of small libraries in general and Iowa's small libraries in particular.
For the past ten years Henricks has been an instructor of Public Library Management for the State Library of Iowa. She has served on the Executive Board of the Iowa Library Association, as the Iowa Chapter Councilor to the American Library Association and is certified by the Public Library Association as a facilitator in the processes Planning and Staffing for Results.
