    The HCA Program receives job announcements from local and national health care employers on a regular basis. In addition, notices about post-graduate internship and fellowship opportunities are available through the HCA Office and at ACHE - Fellowships.

    Internships, Brookline Department of Public Health

    Well-qualified graduate students are sought to work on a variety of projects under the general direction of Alan Balsam PhD, MPH, Director of Public Health and Human Services in Brookline, and adjunct Associate Professor at BU School of Public Health, and adjunct Assistant Professor at Tufts Schools of Public Health and Nutrition.

    Opportunities include:

    • Division of Environmental Health - work on a variety of environmental health issues, which may include bio-terrorism preparedness, West Nile Virus, food sanitation and safety, and rabies control. Learn Geographic Information Systems (GIS), help implement online restaurant sanitation reports, assist with web page maintenance, monthly on-line quizzes, and learn how to conduct public health inspections.
    • Division of Community Health - work on issues including our adult immunization program, women's and elder health initiatives, and injury control. Help promote fitness and public health as part of Brookline's 300th Anniversary Celebration.
    • Public Health Nursing/Epidemiology - help track and control communicable disease outbreaks, support the provision of direct medical services, and assist in developing community-based data collection and presentation.
    • Office of the Director: work directly with Dr. Balsam on Brookline's community health needs assessment, staff the Friends of Brookline Public Health organization, assist in organizing the 10th Annual Public Health Policy Forum, and help plan for the renovation of the Health Department building as a "green building".
    • Domestic Violence Roundtable, work on the production of our award-winning television show "Safety Net", and assist in tracking the Town's Dating Violence Intervention Program and anti-bullying program in the schools, and a variety of other community-based interventions.
    • Emergency Preparedness - assist with the creation of the Department's Emergency Plan, work with staff to achieve Public Health Ready Certification, and help implement a Reserve Medical Corps for Brookline.

    All positions require, approximately 12 hours per week, and all include a stipend. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and computer ability required for all positions. All students will be responsible for a specific project, among other duties.

    Deland Fellowship Program in Health Care and Society

    Brigham & Women's Hospital
    Boston, MA

    The Deland Fellowship begins with an introductory three-month clinical rotation during which the fellows attend rounds, meet patients and families, and learn hospital procedures, Substantial contact with nursing, house staff, care coordination, emergency services, ambulatory care, obstetrics, and other clinical specialties is provided during this period. Fellows then undertake several administrative rotations through key departments to enhance their understanding of operations and other functions. In addition to several department-specific projects relating to these rotations, fellows are required to complete a larger project. Members of senior management serve as preceptors.

    Qualifications: Candidates are required to have an advanced degree. Candidates from a variety of careers and educational backgrounds, including business, law, economics, public policy and medicine, are welcome to apply.

    The newly formed Center for Mississippi Health Policy is currently recruiting Policy Analysts to identify research, and develop policy statements pertaining to a variety of health issues. Starting annual salary $72,000 with competitive benefits package provided.
