Admission Requirements

Applicants to the DPT Bridge Program, must have completed a statistics course within the past 5 years at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. CLEP,IB ,AP scores or pass/fail courses are not acceptable.

You may also consider WebStat, an online SHS course. For additional information about this course,contact the DPT Bridge program at  email@bridgedpt@simmons.edu. WebStat covers various forms of data, methods for summarizing data both numerically and graphically, designing surveys, observational studies and experiments, elements of probability, sampling distributions, and statistical inferences for one and two samples. The overarching goal of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the fundamental concepts of, and some basic techniques in, modern statistics.

If taken at Simmons, this course would not be included in the flat fee for the DPT Bridge program and it does not count as credit towards the doctoral degree.

Course Requirements

All D.P.T. Bridge Students will be required to take the following courses or their program equivalents:

  • SHS 570: Health Promotion: A Global Perspective, 2 credits
  • PT 740:Principles of Leadership and Management, 3 credits
  • SHS 414: Acquiring & Analyzing Research Data, 3 credits
  • PT 760: Research Seminar, 3 credits

The credits for required courses add up to a total of 11 credits. Each student must take a minimum of one additional credit to achieve a total of 12 credits earned at Simmons.  Students may take up to 4 additional credits (to a maximum limit of 15 credits) at no additional cost. Completion of the research courses assumes prior course work in basis statistics and basic research methods.

Waiving Requirements

Applicants who wish to complete the Advanced Standing Application to waive any of the requirements above will complete a portfolio describing their professional experience according to the guidelines set out in the Portfolio Request to Waive Form (downloadable as a 84K pdf). In the event that one or more of the required courses is waived, the student is still required to complete the minimum 12 credits at Simmons by replacing the credits for waived courses with credits from elective courses.
