Post-Bachelor's Certificates

Certificate in Sports Nutrition

The Certificate in Sports Nutrition (C.S.N.) prepares students for the American College of Sports Medicine Health/Fitness Instructors Exam. This flexible online program may be completed in one to two years - at your convenience from home or office. A combination of nutrition and exercise knowledge allows students to build competence in the area of personal training and fitness. The curriculum includes four classes, two of which are required courses in our master's program (another course in the Certificate in Sports Nutrition curriculum can be used as an elective toward the master's degree): Sports Psychology; Nutrition, Fitness, & Wellness; Exercise Assessment and Prescription; and Sports Nutrition Practice.

Certificate in Clinical Genetics

In response to a growing awareness of the impact of genetics on health throughout the lifespan, the increasing complexity of genetic testing and counseling, and to support national and organizational recommendations to offer genetic testing and counseling services by health professionals, a Certificate in Clinical Genetics (post-bachelor's) is being offered by the School of Health Sciences. This certificate is ideal for nurses, social workers, psychologists, physician assistants, nutritionists, and other health professionals working with clientele impacted by or at risk for developing genetic disorders.

Certificate in the Didactic Program in Dietetics (D.P.D.)

The D.P.D. Certificate fulfills one of the requirements to become a Registered Dietitian (R.D.). The American Dietetic Association(ADA) requires the successful completion of a series of specific didactic courses. The D.P.D. Certificate will prepare graduates to become competent entry level professionals, as well as successful students in a graduate nutrition program or accredited supervised practice program (dietetic internship ).This certificate, along with a verification statement from Simmons College, will confirm the successful completion of the first step in the credentialing process for dietetics practitioners. Students must pass the DPD courses at Simmons to be eligible for a verification statement. In addition to a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, and the didactic courses, an accredited supervised practice program (dietetic internship) must be completed to ensure eligibility to take the R.D. exam. The courses in this certifcate are coded as graduate courses but they are actually undergraduate in content. The application for a dietetic internship (D.I.P.) is a separate process through the ADA and completion of the D.P.D. Certificate does not guarantee acceptance to a D.I.P.

Students must formally apply to this program by submitting the Nutrition application to the School of Health Sciences not the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Carefully review the application since some items required for other nutrition program options are not required for the DPD application. GRE is not required. Since this program awards a post-bachelor's certificate, tuition is based on the existing per credit hour rate charged by the School of Health Sciences.

Further information about the didactic requirements can be found by clicking on the Mission and Diadactic PDF in the right-hand side of this page www.simmons.edu/academics/undergraduate/nutrition/
