Today's nutrition experts face a host of challenges — and an expanding field of career opportunities. The nation's rapidly aging population will require special care, but there also are many other issues that need to be addressed. Obesity, for example, is a leading risk factor for chronic diseases and conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, yet it is also among the most preventable.

Providers and insurers can agree on one thing: the smart way to reduce health care costs is through prevention. Unlike other graduate programs in nutrition, the Simmons program focuses on wellness and prevention. Our unique curriculum extends beyond acute care issues to promote community health and the practical aspects of working in the field of nutritional wellness. Course offerings provide guidance for establishing a practice by covering such topics as program planning and implementation, nutrition fitness and wellness, and health promotion. Our small classroom setting is crafted to ensure the highest degree of learning, and fosters discussion, teamwork, and individual attention.

Promoting Research and Publication

With close faculty mentorship, students in the master's program team up to design, implement, analyze, and write a nutrition and health promotion research project in a publishable format. Some of our students' work has appeared in publications such as The Journal of American Dietetics and the Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicines, and Topics in Clinical Nutrition.
