» Admission Requirements

The Doctor in Nursing Practice program is a post-master's entry curriculum designed to prepare advanced practice nurses for clinical, educational, and leadership roles within the health care profession. Application requirements include:

M.S. in nursing or a related Master's degree (3.5 graduate GPA) from a regionally accredited U.S. post secondary institution. Completion of a statistics course with a grade of "B" or better at a regionally accredited U.S. post-secondary institution within 5 years prior to the application deadline.

If you have not completed a statistics course,completion of our online WEB Stats(statistics) course is required; a "pass" in this course is required. This statistics course is a prerequisite for Advanced Research Methods(NURS 640), Biostatistics(NURS 655) and Epidemiology(NURS 650). Students cannot proceed to enrolling in these courses until the Office of Admission has received verification of completion of the required statistics course. No other non-graded or audited course is acceptable. Board certification in an advanced practice specialty for the clinical leadership track.

Current nursing license.

Minimum of two years full time professional practice for applicants desiring advanced standing status(for the Advanced Standing Bridge application).

Please see the D.N.P. admission application for complete details about required materials for standard and advanced application categories. The application deadline for receipt of all materials is June 1 for September entry and November 1 for January entry. Please note that this is not the post mark date.

If you have not completed a statistics course within five years prior to the application deadline (and earned a grade of B or better), you may take one course as a non-degree student before formally applying for admission. One of the following courses can be taken as non-degree for the fall semester : NUR 620 Ethics,NUR 670 Health Policy
or NUR 660 Informatics. For the spring semester, NUR 620 Ethics,can be taken as non-degree if offered. NUR 650 Epidemiology can only be taken as non-degree if you have successfully completed statistics within 5 years prior to the semester you wish to enroll. For information about these specific courses and to register for such courses, call the Office of Admission of the School of Health Sciences at 617-521-2605. Registrations will be accepted one week prior to the start of the semester. Upon successful completion( earning a grade of B or better) of these courses,individuals must formally apply for admission and cannot continue to take additional classes as a non-degree student.

If you are admitted to the D.N.P. program, you may receive academic credit with faculty approval for up to six credits for D.N.P. courses completed elsewhere at a U.S. regionally accredited post-secondary institution, within 5 years prior to the start of the Simmons program.
