» Admission Requirements

The Doctor in Nursing Practice program is a post-master's entry curriculum designed to prepare advanced practice nurses for clinical, educational, and leadership roles within the health care profession. Application requirements include:

M.S. in nursing or a related Master's degree (3.0 overall GPA) from a regionally accredited U.S. post secondary institution.

Completion of a statistics course with a grade of B or better within five years prior to the application deadline at a regionally accredited U.S. post secondary institution is required. A statistic course is a prerequisite for Advanced Research Methods(NURS 640) and Biostatistics(NURS 655).Students cannot proceed to enrolling in these courses until the Office of Admission has received verification of completion of the required statistics course. Alternatively, a student may take Webstats, an online course designated for applicants to SHS programs: a "pass" is required in this course.  No other non-graded or audited course is acceptable. Board certification in an advanced practice specialty.

Current nursing license.

Minimum of two years full time clinical practice for applicants desiring advanced standing status(for the Advanced Standing Bridge application)

Please see the D.N.P. admission application for complete details about required materials for standard and advanced application categories. The application deadline for receipt of all materials is June 1 for September entry and November 1 for January entry. Please note that this is not the post mark date.

If you have not completed a statistics course within five years prior to the application deadline (and earned a grade of B or better), you may take two courses as a non-degree student in the fall (September)semester before formally applying for admission:
NURS 620: Ethical and Legal Issues for Advanced Practice(3 credits) and NURS 630: Professional Leadership and Practice Change(3 credits).
Or, you may take one course as a non-degree student in the spring(January) semester before formally applying for admission: NURS 670 Epidemiology(2 credits).

To register for such courses, call the Office of Admission of the School of Health Sciences at 617-521-2605. Registrations will be accepted one week prior to the start of the semester. Upon successful completion( earning a grade of B or better) of these courses,individuals must formally apply for admission and cannot continue to take additional classes as a non-degree student.
