» HCA Prerequisites

The HCA Program at the School for Health Studies requires the following of accepted students prior to enrollment:

  • An undergraduate statistics course (any type - 1 semester), equivalent to MATH 118 at Simmons College. The course must have been completed with a B or better in the last 10 years.
  • A working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite software programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Although not a prerequisite, a recent undergraduate accounting course and a recent undergraduate writing course, working knowledge of Quickbooks, or other financial program are strongly recommended.

All prerequisites should be taken at any accredited U.S. college or university. Simmons offers an on-line statistics course, Webstats (PDF download), which is available 3 times per year. Enrolled, non-matriculated students may also take classes in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint at the Pottruck Center. If you are unsure whether a course taken elsewhere fulfills the prerequisites, please fax the syllabus (not a course description) to the Office of Admission at 617-521-3137. Please allow 10 business days for a reply.
