» Certificate in Health Care Management

The Certificate in Health Care Management is designed for current students and graduates of the Simmons School of Management (SOM) and MBA graduates from an AACSB-accredited institution who are interested in the health care industry. Students can complete this certificate by taking a combination of courses, projects and a practical experience in a local health care organization.

Program Objectives

The promise of growth trends for women in health care management provides a unique opportunity for a partnership between the School of Management and the School of Health Sciences. By offering students the chance to augment their MBA program with additional study in health care management, designed and implemented with appropriate and targeted educational programs and training initiatives, Simmons can extend its mission of educating women for power and leadership, and will also build a cadre of women with management skills to be leaders in health care management. This certificate program provides an opportunity to further the CollegeÍs reputation as a leader in new education program design by equipping students who already have a strong foundation in management with additional focus in health care management.

  • The certificate will build upon the reputation for excellence of both schools in educating future women managers, giving them opportunities to:
  • Become a successful business and industry leader in the field of health care management
  • Become a champion of innovation in health care management
  • Apply the rigor of managerial skills to health care related organizations either in a for-profit, not-for profit, or governmental setting
  • Pursue initiatives that yield a sustainable, profitable, and competitive advantage in health care related companies
  • Enhance their ability to compete in todayÍs job market

Through a combination of coursework and experiential education, students will enhance their knowledge base by working with faculty, advisors, students and health care related organizations in the community to grow and develop their management skills in the field. Participating in individual and group projects, students will utilize their creativity and experience the challenges in the execution of management ideas when working in health related organizations. Upon completion of this academic program, students will receive a
Certificate in Health Care Administration, a post-master's credential.
