» physical therapy newsSimmons Physical Therapy Faculty and Students in the Spotlight Professor Clare Safran Norton was interviewed on WBZ 4 News on April 15, 2002 with Physical Therapy students Jane Goldman, Geoff Gray and Cheryl Batty about their particiaption in the Boston Marathon's medical tent for runners. For the past several years, Professor Safran Norton has been head of the medical tent and has taken a large group of physical therapy students to assist during the marathon. Two Simmons P.T. students were recently featured on Channel 5 (WCVB TV), Channel 7 (WHDH TV), and WBZ Radio. They spoke about their work on ACL injuries in female athletes and the upcoming Health of Women's Sports Conference at Simmons. Information on the ACL study was also featured in articles in the February 27th edition of the Women/Sports section of the Boston Globe and in the Cape Cod Times. Still fresh in his mind was the sight of Jayme Busmengo, a star player from four years ago, suffering a knee injury to her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) that also shattered the Canalmen's hopes for a dream season. So when physical therapists from Simmons College phoned last year promoting a study and a program that helped prevent ACL injuries in female athletes, Gendron was all ears.
