Simmons Physical Therapy Student Wins Statewide Awards for Excellence

This October, Patricia Roy, SHS'02, was awarded the Ruth P. Hall Clinical Fellowship Award, a highly respected and prominent award given annually by the American Physical Therapy Association of Massachusetts to one physical therapy student in the state. The APTA of MA uses the award to "recognize individuals who obtain the qualities and characteristics we believe are important for the future of our profession." These include personal and professional attributes, such as caring and dedication to patient care and professional growth, as well as scholastic and clinical ability.

Ms. Roy was first selected as the Simmons nominee for the award; each physical therapy school is allowed to nominate only one candidate, who is then recommended by a faculty member, a peer, and a clinical instructor. She was then selected from the best candidates from all schools in the state.

Ms. Roy was awarded the honor at the APTA's Tri-State Conference and Exposition on October 19 in Sturbridge, MA and was presented with her award by Program Director Diane Jette.

This is the second consecutive year that a Simmons physical therapy student has won the award. Last year, Karen Weber, SHS'01, was the recipient.
