Simmons P.T. Alums Find Jobs, Win Awards

Meanwhile, the Physical Therapy Class of 2002 has already made its professional mark. A group of physical therapy alumni recently won the Dorothy Briggs Memorial Scientific Inquiry Award. The group conducted a research project with Diane Jette, '72 , professor and director of physical therapy, and Judy Beal , associate dean and professor of nursing. They were recognized for their resulting article, "The Experience of Providing Physical therapy in a Changing health Care Environment," published in Physical Therapy magazine. Rosemary Blau, Sarah Bolus, Terence Carolan, Daniel Kramer, and Elizabeth Mahoney--all from the SHS Class of 2001--will receive the award at the annual conference of the American Physical Therapy Association on June 21 in Washington, DC.

Stacey Karacek '02 won the Shaughnessy Rehabilitation Hospital Award for committment to excellence. Stacey was nominated by her supervisors. In addition, Sara Pullen '04 and Harriet Sam '02 participated in the Massachusetts Chapter Diversity Program, funded by grants from philanthropic organizations devoted to community health and wellness. Both students provided lectures to Boston area community centers on injury prevention. Congratulations to these alumnae and students on their achievements!

The more recent alumnae/i from the SHS Class of 2002 have not been idle either. They have found employment in a variety of physical therapy and health care settings around the country.
