Nutrition Professor Awarded Prestigious Grant

Dr. Liz Metallinos-Katsaras and collaborators at Tufts Medical School were recently awarded a two-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control. The goal of the research is to enumerate and evaluate current national survey activities and surveillance systems of individual behaviors and attitudes related to nutrition, physical activity, sedentary behavior, and weight status among school-age children. This exciting project will attempt to get at the underpinnings of behaviors thought to be related to the obesity epidemic facing not only adults but also children in the U.S. This new initiative, combined with other completed or pending research on adolescent health, overburdened school backpacks, and injuries to young soccer players, among other research projects, will reinforce SHS faculty's already impressive portfolio of pediatric health research.
