Nutrition lecturer and coordinator of the Certificate in Sports Nutrition Janet Washington was recently selected to serve a three-year term as a program reviewer/site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education. The commission is the American Dietetic Association's accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as registered dietitians or dietetics technicians.

Assistant Professor of Nutrition Teresa Fung was interviewed in the April issue of More magazine in a piece connecting whole grains to low risk for diabetes.

Professor Nancie Herbold, chair of the nutrition department, and Sari Edelstein, assistant professor of nutrition, presented "Popular Weight Loss Diets: Descriptions and Discussion of Ethical Use in Health Promotion" at the Annual Art and Science of Health Promotion Conference in Washington, D.C. in February. Additionally, Edelstein presented the poster "Positive Outcomes of a Diabetes Education Program Managed by A Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator" at the conference.

Teresa Fung, assistant professor of nutrition has received national attention for her study on the effect of the Western diet on rates of colon cancer in women (see below). The study was mentioned on Good Morning America in their Feb. 10th broadcast and featured in a report on ABCnews.com and Prof. Fung has been interviewed by WSBK-TV Channel 38.
