Recent MS nursing graduates offered an array of research presentations including:
Faculty News Terry Buttaro,Clinical Assistant Professor, has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners,a distinction achieved each year by a select group of nurse practitioners who make outstanding contributions to health care through nursing practice,education,research or policy. Fellows work on leadership and mentoring programs to develop leaders in the field. Buttaro is also a member of the Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International,the honor society of nursing. Dr. Annemarie Barron has been appointed Associate Clinical Researcher at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She recently had a chapter published in Giving Value to What we Know,edited by Jones and Picard. She also presented a poster at the Eastern Nursing Research Society on "Explaining factors that facilitate the integration of therapeutic touch on an inpatient oncology and bone marrow transplant unit." She coordinated and presented a session titled "Creating a Therapeutic and Healing Environment" at a conference at the Masachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Judy Beal was elected to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Nominatng Committee. Dr. Susan Duty has been appointed to the Research Committee for the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives as well as the Institutional Review Board at Simmons College. She recently presented a poster at the American Public Health Association. Dr. Duty has also been instrumental in creating a Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study in Occupational Health Nursing with the Harvard School of Public Health. Priscilla Gazarian was recently appointed a Nurse Scientist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Karen Teeley received certification as a Nurse Educator from the National League of Nursing. Dr. Arlene Lowenstein will become the director of the Certifcate of Advanced Graduate Study in Health Professions Education and the Ph.D. in Health Professions Education programs in July 2007. Simmons Nursing Students Continue to AchieveSimmons graduate nursing students recently achieved a 100% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX examination, well above the state average of 83%. The Simmons NP certification first-time pass rate is 100%. This continuous achievement further demonstrates Simmons's commitment to the success of our students. |
