Nursing Students' Pass Rate is Good Medicine

Kudos to the Nursing Program's class of 2001, which had a 97 percent pass rate on the Registered Nurse Licensure Examination. The national passing average is 86 percent.

This examination is given nationwide to graduates of nursing programs and, if passed, allows them to practice as registered nurses. The exam covers all aspects of professional nursing practice, specifically focusing on critical thinking skills and nursing knowledge.

"The Nursing Program has worked hard over the past two years to revise its curriculum in order to increase the numbers of clinical hours in the program for all students and to enhance the nursing science content," said Judy Beal, associate dean of the Nursing Programs.

Starting in their sophomore year, students are now required to have a minimum of two eight-hour days of clinical practice in addition to their nursing science and liberal arts courses.

"Nursing is both a science and an art, and such a demanding program has certainly paid off, in terms of this successful licensure outcome," she added.
