SHS Alum Receives Nursing Award

Jeanne Colbath '82HS, an adult nurse practitioner and a certified holistic nurse, recently received the Emmanuel College Clara Barton Service to Humanity Award for 2002.

"The purpose of this award is to recognize a nurse who combines Barton's zeal for serving others with the commitment to contribute significantly to their professional and civic communities. Like Clara Barton before her, Jeanne Colbath has made a distinctive mark on her communities," said Joan M. Riley, professor and chair of the Department of Nursing at Emmanuel College.

A member of the St. Elizabeth's Medical Center nursing staff since 1971, Colbath was instrumental in establishing the medical center's Cardiac Rehab Program, an area she currently supervises. She also spearheaded the establishment of the center's Intermediate Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) in 1976.

"This award is a testament to the many years of compassionate patient care and professional leadership that Jeanne has provided to our Medical Center in her role as coordinator of the Cardiac Rehab Program," said Dr. Robert M. Haddad, president of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. "In addition to the care she provides our patients, Jeanne gives so much back to the community, as evidenced by her many years of service as a volunteer for the American Heart Association."

Colbath received her B.A. from the Boston University School of Nursing. She resides in Framingham, MA, with her husband and son.
