Dancing

The first thing I did when I saw the "Please Don't Walk On The New Grass" signs, sitting on the new grass at the Speed Racer Go-Cart and Skateboard Plaza behind the Main College Building, was . . . to WALK ON THE GRASS.

We just don't NEED any more rules. We just don't need any more DON'Ts. Give the students, faculty and staff something. "Hey! Enjoy the new grass. It won't be here long anyway. Winter's coming. Please DANCE on the new grass."

All we get is save money here. Save money there. No raises this year. Broken cookies only at this event. (I made that one up, sorry.) Why not Dance on the Confounded Grass?

I may schlep my kids into Boston before the first frost comes just to dance on the grass.
Valerie (BA in Education and Spanish 1998)

Oh Dear Valerie,

We shall all dance. And later make snow angels.

Take Care
Bob

I had the EXACT same reaction, Bob. I, too, walked on the grass. Thought to myself - this campus has been under construction for 2+ years. It's nice to see green. Let us enjoy, please.

Are we not the baddest of people!
Enjoy, enjoy.

Bob

I hate to be the curmudgeon in here, but I have been photographing the laying of this grass for several weeks, and I have watched workers sweating to get it laid in time before the freeze so that it can take root when it goes dormant for the winter. So while I understand that we need to find something joyful, I think that undoing the work of these gentlemen (who will lose jobs well before any of us as the economy slows down) by tearing up the roots is a bit disrespectful of what they have tried to accomplish. So if you are going to dance on the grass, please take off your shoes first. Me, I look on those little blades with fondness for each one.

YES YES YES
Please take off your shoes and DANCE.
or Dance METAPHORICALLY!
or, dare I say, IRONICALLY.
