faculty

Students identify the faculty as the College's greatest asset. More than 109 full-time professors, the majority of whom hold doctoral or highest appropriate degrees from the nation's top schools, bring their enthusiasm and expertise into the classroom. They are published authors, ardent scientists, eminent speakers, working journalists, economists, nurses, physical therapists, business and non-profit consultants, musicians, philosophers, and poets. More than 50% are women. All are passionate educators.

Professional Achievements

Simmons faculty flexes its professional muscle through publication and research. The National Science Foundation, National Institute of Mental Health, Ford Foundation, Microsoft Corporation, Verizon, and other outside agencies recognize that Simmons is doing great things. In a recent year, faculty received $2,000,000 in grants and contracts for research and community service projects. National and regional media regularly interview Simmons professors on topics as diverse as physical therapist Maura Daly Iversen's ACL injury study or Southeast Asia expert Zachary Abuza's knowledge about terrorism and Al-Qaeda.

Advisors & Mentors

Every first-year student is assigned a faculty advisor who explains academic requirements and opportunities, and creates a plan to best fulfill those requirements while encouraging exploration. Beyond freshman year, academic advisors are more closely matched with student majors. Students say professors care about them, expect excellence, and offer guidance. Many faculty members invite talented students to collaborate on research projects, articles, and presentation. Read more about internships and independent study or advising.

I think students here are given the opportunity to learn one-on-one from a very impressive faculty. Simmons students are not learning from teaching assistants. They're learning from experts who have time to give them personal attention. — Kirk Beattie, Associate Professor, Political Science
