Emily Sweeney-Kerwin, '07 MS.Ed.
'10 Ph.D. Candidate, Applied Behavior Analysis Ph.D. Program
Outreach Consultant, Carbone Clinic, Valley Cottage, New York
Since 2003, Emily Sweeney-Kerwin has taught learners with autism and related disabilities as an outreach consultant with the Carbone Clinic in New York. She's also a member of a very prestigious boys club—a group of students she's taught over the past few years. "Aaron, Andrew, Anthony, and Vincent are my boys," she smiles. "My students are a continual source of inspiration."
Sweeney-Kerwin says the structure of the behavioral education program at Simmons allowed her to continue working in an applied setting through the Carbone Clinic, and to pursue her research interests. She secured her M.S.Ed. in 2007 and has now set her sights on a doctorate.
"Simmons's Ph.D. program in applied behavior analysis is particularly attractive because of the opportunity to take courses from well-respected members of the ABA community. The program is helping me to develop new and interesting research topics and a better repertoire of assessing and changing behavior in my clinical work, and will prepare me to someday teach college-level courses in the area of applied behavior analysis."
