Entrepreneur & Princeton Review Name Simmons School of Management Entrepreneurship Program "One of Nation's Best"

Only Program on the List Designed Specifically for Women Entrepreneurs

BOSTON (September 23, 2010) — The Simmons School of Management Entrepreneurship Program in Boston has once again been named one of the 25 best programs in the nation by Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review, which jointly surveyed more than 2,000 business schools.

The Simmons entrepreneurship program was one of only two graduate programs in New England to make the top 25 list. It also is the only program included in the ranking designed specifically for women entrepreneurs.  

"Our program is dedicated to understanding women entrepreneurs and the growth paths of their ventures — whether a technology company, a global nonprofit, or an online fashion retailer," said Teresa Nelson, Ph.D., the Elizabeth J. McCandless Entrepreneurship Chair and Director of the Simmons Entrepreneurship Program. "We know that while women owned businesses are launching at twice the rate of men's, they receive less capital, including venture capital — we're finding out why."

The Simmons program offers a robust curriculum with a focus on creativity, innovation and new venture start-ups, as well as a full set of co-curricular activities including the Silverman Business Plan Competition; a mentoring program; a 225-hour practicum that matches students with successful entrepreneurs around high-profile projects; and an entrepreneur-in-residence program.  Last year's entrepreneurs-in-residence were Stephanie Sonanbend, CEO of Sonesta Hotels; and Anita Brearton, five-time serial entrepreneur and co-chair of Boston's Golden Seeds, an angel investor group dedicated to investing in women entrepreneurs. 

The national entrepreneurship program rankings by Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review were evaluated based on key criteria in the areas of teaching business fundamentals in the classroom, staffing their departments with successful entrepreneurs, excellence in mentorship, providing experiential or entrepreneurial opportunities outside of the classroom, as well as non-traditional, distinguishable aspects of their programs.

The Simmons School of Management is the only business school in the world designed specifically to educate women for power and principled leadership that is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).  The program is featured in The Princeton Review's "The Best 301 Business Schools" 2010 edition and ranked the #1 MBA program in the U.S. with the "greatest opportunities for women."
