BOSTON (August 19, 2010) — Once again, Simmons College has been named a "Best College" by U.S.News & World Report in the 2011 edition of "America's Best Colleges." Simmons ranked in the top tier of schools in its category of Best Universities — Master's North Region.
"Year after year, Simmons continues to be ranked among the top universities in the country by several prestigious, outside organizations," said President Helen Drinan. "I am proud of all that we have accomplished in this very competitive higher education marketplace."
U.S. News & World Report often is cited as the premier college ranking publication. The 2011 rankings include data on more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools, comparing them by a set of 15 indicators of excellence including peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving. The rankings will be published in the September issue of U.S. News & World Report. For more information, visit www.usnews.com/colleges.
Simmons College also was included in several other "best college" rankings this year; the college was named by Forbes.com as one of "America's Best Colleges 2010"; and The Princeton Review's 2011 college guidebook included Simmons as one of the nation's "Best 373 Colleges."
Simmons College was among a select group of more than 600 colleges in the 2010 Forbes.com ranking, representing 15% of the nearly 4,000 colleges in the U.S. In its summary of Simmons's undergraduate women's college, The Princeton Review's "Best 373 College" 2011 college guidebook quoted Simmons students as saying that they get "a lot of opportunity to work closely with faculty, and [to] interact with local Boston communities" and praising the college's "excellent facilities, including an amazing library and the large career resource department." Students also said, small class sizes "allow great discussions, because those who want to participate have the opportunity to do so."
Simmons College is a nationally recognized private university located in the heart of Boston. It includes an undergraduate college for women, the nation's first MBA program designed specifically for women, and graduate programs for women and men in health sciences, social work, library and information science, education, liberal arts, and communications management.
