In Fashion, Green is the New Black: Simmons College to Host Ethical Fashion Show, Nov. 18

BOSTON (November 14, 2008) — Simmons College will host the "Fashion with Impact" Show featuring sustainable clothing brands and recycled textiles, in an effort to help educate the public about ethical fashions and demonstrate the power of entrepreneurship to create value in the world.

The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place Tues., Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. on the Simmons campus in the Linda K. Paresky Conference Center, 300 The Fenway. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The Fashion with Impact event around the world is a partnership between the Simmons School of Management and Direct Selling Education Foundation, an international non-profit advocacy group, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.  From Nov. 17 to Nov. 23, young people around the world will explore their potential as self-starters and innovators, and connect them with other leaders taking action in their local and global communities.

The fashion event will feature than 20 different ethical brands showcased by "real size" models from the Simmons community.

Among the brands featured is "Proxy," a fair trade clothing company started by Simmons School of Management graduate and recent Simmons Silverman Business Plan Competition winner Heatherjean MacNeil. MacNeil was inspired to start Proxy after spending a number of years in several Latin American countries, where she witnessed women developing businesses to support their families and sustain themselves.

Fashion with Impact also marks the launch of the new undergraduate student-run Edun Live on Campus at Simmons (ELOCS).  Edun Live on Campus is a socially conscious clothing company that sells t-shirts to support sustainable socioeconomic development in African.  Simmons students are able to earn practical experience on how to run and grow an ethically responsible business.
