Simmons College Tennis Wins Conference Tournament Title
BOSTON (November 5, 2008) — The Simmons College tennis team knocked off Johnson & Wales, 6-3, at
the Weymouth Club to claim its fourth Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Championship in the last
five years.
The top-seeded Simmons Sharks won two of the three doubles matches to open the finals against the Johnson
& Wales team. Freshmen Liza Pope and Maggie Taylor paired together for an 8-4 win at the No. 2
doubles slot. The No. 3 doubles team of Jordan Borash and Athena Lynch earned an 8-6 victory.
Simmons got singles wins from Maile Macleod, Taylor, Pope, and Lynch.
The Sharks win secures an automatic bid to the NCAA Tennis Championship beginning May 8.
The tennis team is led by Coach Bob Rauseo, who was named the
Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis
Coach of the Year. This is the third time Rauseo has received the honor in the four years he has
been coaching the team. Rauseo helped the 2008 team earn a 7-0 conference record and has led Simmons to
49 victories in the last four years.
