Simmons Wins Third Straight Women's Tennis Title
BOSTON (November 3, 2006) — The Simmons College tennis team has
clinched its third straight championship in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Simmons College Junior Alex Yudelevich overcame a one-set deficit in top-singles action to defeat Anna Marie
Podnecky of Emmanuel College, and clinch the Sharks' third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference
women's tennis championship, defeating Emmanuel, 7-2, Saturday, Oct. 28 at Weymouth Club in Weymouth,
Mass.
Simmons, the tournament's top seed, took all six singles matches with Kendra Currier, Sari Guttin, Dominika
Hudcova and Lauren Faber all winning their matches in straight sets. Senior Vanita Kontrakul battled back
from one set down to take her third singles match, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Stacey Kohan and Ali Kukla teamed up for
victory at third doubles.
"It was a complete team effort," said head coach Bob Rauseo, whose team has won 31 consecutive conference
matches dating back to 2004. "All ten players contributed and I am so proud of this team."
