Only New England School To Be Ranked in This Category
BOSTON (March 15, 2011) — The Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) has been ranked as one of the nation's top 10 schools of library and information studies in the new 2012 edition of "Best Graduate Schools" by U.S. News Media Group. The rankings were released today and will be featured in the "Best Graduate Schools 2012" edition, available April 5.
Simmons is the only library and information science school in New England to be ranked in this category this year. Additionally, Simmons is ranked in the top 10 within the specialty categories of Archives and Preservation, and Services for Children and Youth.
GSLIS has made the top 10 ranking for two consecutive U.S.News graduate rankings cycles — 2009 and the current 2012 ranking.
The 2012 edition of "Best Graduate Schools" is based on data from more than 1,200 programs nationwide. In addition to featuring new rankings in five of the largest professional graduate school disciplines (business, law, education, engineering, and medicine), the 2012 rankings also include updated peer-assessment-only rankings for healthcare management, nursing, nursing-anesthesia, nursing- midwifery, physician assistant, public health, rehabilitation counseling, and veterinary medicine. According to U.S.News, the library and information studies ranking is based on "a 2008 survey of deans, program directors, and senior faculty members at 50 schools with accredited master's programs."
Founded in 1902, Simmons GSLIS is one of the country's oldest library and information science programs. With campuses in Boston and South Hadley, Mass., the school has 750 students in master's and doctoral degree programs, and has a network of approximately 9,000 alumni worldwide.
Simmons College is a nationally recognized private university. It offers an undergraduate education for women, and renowned coeducational graduate programs in health sciences, education, liberal arts, social work, library and information science, and communications management, and the nation's first MBA program designed specifically for women.
