Simmons's partnership with the
Boston Teachers Union for a new pilot school was the front-page feature story of the September issue of the
Advocate, the monthly newsletter of Massachusetts union teachers. The article also included quotes
from Education
Department Chair Paul Abraham. Additionally, the Boston Herald ran a story Sept. 6, which also quotes
Abraham, in a special two-page back-to-school section, and the Boston Globe featured a front-page
story Sept. 10 that mentioned Simmons.
Education Professor
Nina Senatore was quoted in a national Associated Press story on end of summer
activities for kids, which ran in a variety of media outlets at the end of August, including
ABCNews.com.
School of Management Professor Sylvia Maxfield
was quoted in the August 19 Forbes.com article "How To
Take Smart Risks." The article was picked up by several foreign outlets, including Alibaba News
Channel, Wirtualna Polska, and MSN Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines News.
Simmons was mentioned in August 12 Forbes.com article on "Why
Women's Colleges Are Still Relevant." In the article, Simmons was listed as one of the top 10 women's
colleges in the U.S.
School of Management Dean Deborah Merrill-Sands
authored the article "Principled
Leadership: A model for the 'reset' economy" in the September edition of Women's Business
Boston. The article also appeared in the Sept. 1 issue of BostonHerald.com.
School of Social Work Professor Gary Bailey was
featured in the August 13 Bay State Banner and in the August issue of NASW Focus
(newsletter of the National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts chapter) about his appointment to

School of Management Professor Lynda Moore was
interviewed in the July issue of Wealth Matrix in a special issue devoted to women and the
recession. Wealth Matrix is a monthly magazine based in the United Arab Emirates covering the Arab
stock market and financial sector.
Nutrition
Professor Teresa Fung's study about
sugary drinks was mentioned in the South Oregon News Tribune and Mail Tribune
(Medford, OR) August 11. Fung's study on eating more fruits and vegetables and less salt to fight kidney
stones was announced in the August 14 editions of Science Daily.com and Medical News
Today. The study will be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of the American Society
Nephrology.

Professor Jim Corcoran was quoted in The Guardian (UK) August 16 in an article about the fear
for President Obama's safety due to the surge in rightwing extremism in the U.S. The story also was picked
up in the New Zealand Herald and the Taipei Times.
