Simmons's rankings in Princeton Review's The Best 371 Colleges guidebook and in Forbes.com's America's Best Colleges list ran in newspapers and on TV websites nationwide throughout the end of July and beginning of August. Simmons also appeared in a top-10 list of women's colleges in Forbes' Aug. 12 article "Why Women's Colleges Are Still Relevant."

International Relations Chair Zach Abuza appeared in several media outlets in response to the bombings in Jakarta in mid-July. He was interviewed on NewsHour with Jim Lehrer July 17 and was quoted in the July 18 Washington Post, July 18 Los Angeles Times, July 19 Wall Street Journal, July 19 Thanh Niên (an Indonesian paper), and the July 21 issue of the Malaysian Insider.

Biology Professor Elizabeth Scott, co-director of the Center for Hygiene and Health in Home and Community, was quoted in the July 26 Chicago Tribune story on hygiene issues surrounding children wearing Crocs shoes in pools. The story was picked up by newspapers nationwide, including the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader (Northern PA) and Island Packet (Hilton Head, SC).

Physical Therapy Professor Shelley Goodgold and her backpack study were referenced in news stories on heavy student knapsacks in late July and early August on a variety of TV station websites nationwide, including WSBTV.com (Atlanta), WFSBTV (Hartford, CT), Foxreno.com, WESH-TV (FL), and KETV (NE), as well as in Citizen Newspapers (Fayetteville, GA), and the information website About.com.

Articles about Graduate School of Library and Information Science Alumna David Ferriero's nomination as U.S. Archivist by President Obama appeared in the Aug. 14 Boston Business Journal and the Aug. 14 Gloucester Times. It also was announced on The National Coalition for History's blogsite July 28, the American Historical Association blogsite July 29, and on DirectoryofBoston.com Aug. 2.

School of Health Sciences Dean Gerry Koocher was quoted in a July 31 Philly.com (Philadelphia Daily News online) article providing advice on discussing death with children, in light of the media's attention of celebrity deaths like Michael Jackson.

An article about the Career Education Center's new employment "Market Trends" wiki site and corresponding monthly e-mail newsletter, CEC/CRL Market Trends Update, ran in the August issue of Campus Career Counselor.

Associate Dean Judy Beal, professor and chair of nursing, was quoted in a July 31 Quincy Patriot Ledger article about the changing job market for nurses. The article also was picked up by the Brockton Enterprise.

School of Management Professor Fiona Wilson was quoted in a July 14 Boston Globe article about errand-running businesses.

A July 17 Boston Business Journal article on selecting the right MBA program featured School of Management alumna Heather Lantz.

School of Social Work Professor Gary Bailey was featured in a Aug. 13 Bay State Banner article about his appointment as a member of the board of directors of the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority. The appointment also was mentioned in the May 6 Provincetown Banner.

Basketball coach Tony Price was featured in the July 15 Minnesota Spokesman Recorder about his new book, An Unsung Coach.

Africana Studies Professor Theresa Perry was mentioned in a July 16 Wayland Town Crier article about the "achievement gap" in schools.

An Assistive Technology class project by student Caitlin Kraus, titled "GoogleLitTrips for Students with Language-Based Learning Disabilities," was highlighted on the Google Lit Trips website's homepage. Google Lit Trips uses Google Earth's map functions to take students on a virtual field trip of locations cited in historical fiction, novels and non-fiction.

School of Health Sciences Dean Gerry Koocher's election as president of the Society of Pediatric Psychology was featured in the July 20 Brookline Tab.
