Moore was interviewed live on Dubai Eye Radio (United Arab Emirates) June 9 on "women in the
workforce in the UAE." Later that month, on June 24, Communications Professor Dan
Connell was interviewed
live on that station's Nightline program, discussing how recent pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia
may impact U.S. foreign policy in that region, specifically in Eritrea. Dubai Eye is considered one of the
UAE's premier radio stations broadcasting 24 hours a day in eight languages.
Simmons School of Social Work Professor Helen
Reinherz was interviewed in an article on depression in the June 26 issue of CQ Researcher
Online, a division of Congressional Quarterly Inc. The School of Social Work's Longitudinal Study on the impact of family conflict on
teens, of which Reinherz is principal investigator, was featured on the June 12 episode of
Healthbeat, a podcast program of the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services.
Communications Associate Professor Jim Corcoran was quoted in the Sunday June 14 edition of The Guardian (U.K.) in the article "Far-right shootings raise fear of hate offensive in America."
Simmons School of Management Professor Deborah Kolb was quoted in a July 5 Washington Post article about the importance of high moral standards for leaders. She also was quoted in a June 18 CNBC.com article on the importance of patience when making financial decisions.Education Department Chair Paul Abraham was interviewed on WBZ-AM radio June 1 regarding Simmons's partnership with the Boston Teachers Union for a new pilot school, and was featured in the BulletinNewspapers.com, Boston's largest weekly newspaper group, June 4. Abraham also was quoted in a May 29 Mass High Tech article on language-training video games used to teach English to children worldwide.
Basketball coach Tony Price has received significant media attention for his new book, An Unsung Coach. He was featured in the June 25 Bay State Banner, and an interview was posted on WFXT-TV's FOX-25 News website June 26. He also discussed his upcoming basketball fundraiser for the Boston Sickle Cell Disease Foundation in the July 2 Bay State Banner.
Simmons was mentioned in a July 10 Chronicle of Higher Education article about colleges offering online courses to attract local students, and referenced the "localness" grant for online education Simmons received from the Sloan Foundation.
Madalaine Pugliese, program director for assistive special education technology, was quoted in a July 7 eSchoolnews.com article about assistive technology research projects supported by the National Center for Technology Innovation. The article describes how Pugliese, along with Assistant Professor Russell Maguire and Lecturer Karen Janowski, are studying math software's role in helping students of various abilities develop number sense.
Zach Abuza, chair of political science and international relations, was quoted in a June 24 Global Post article about Thailand's Muslim separatists murdering of educators. The article was picked up by the July 6 edition of the Huffington Post blog.
The cover story of the June 16 Boston Globe "G" section featured recent Simmons graduate Catherine Chalpin in an article about the new trivia site, Sprocle.Health Care Administration Professor Robert Coulam was quoted in a May 30 McClatchy Newspapers wire story about interrogation treatments.
Simmons School of Management Professor Spela Trefalt was interviewed in the June 16 issue of Delo, a Slovenian daily newspaper, about her research on work-life balance and the advantages of Simmons' all-women MBA program.The Simmons College radio station was featured in the July 1 edition of Radioworld, the newspaper for radio managers and engineers. The article focused on the construction of the internet radio station, and quoted General Station Manager Len Mailloux, communications instructor.
