President Susan Scrimshaw wrote a March 5 Boston Globe op-ed about making health a priority on college campuses. Her article mentions Simmons's Health Education Program.

Zach Abuza, chair of political science and international relations, was interviewed in a Feb. 23 Associated Press article about the increase in insurgents in Thailand.

An Associated Press article on the importance of addressing racist comments quoted Beverly Tatum, author of the Simmons College/Beacon Press book Can We Talk About Race? The article ran in scores of newspapers nationwide in January and February, including the Chicago Tribune, the Santa Fe New Mexican, the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun, the Daily Hampshire (Mass.) Gazette, and the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register.

Communications Lecturer Dan Connell was quoted in a Feb. 6 Washington Post article about a D.C.-area physician émigré from Eritrea who has been denied asylum by the U.S. government.

The March 4 Boston Globe's "Names" column mentioned the communications department's "Wall of Fame," and its newest alumnae honoree, Hollywood producer Denise DiNovi. In the column, DiNovi called her time as a student at Simmons "some of the greatest years of my life."

Simmons School of Social Work Professor Helen Reinherz's recent profile in the Boston Globe, which described her Simmons Longitudinal Study, was mentioned in the February issue of NASW News, the monthly newsletter of the National Association of Social Workers.

Simmons School of Social Work Alumna Jean Fain, a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, was featured in the Feb. 21 Boston Globe, discussing her new YouTube video, titled "Why a Twinkie?"  The video promotes mindful eating, which Fain said is the key to weight loss, not food deprivation. 

A feature story on Simmons Emerita Professor of Social Work Sophie Freud appeared in the Feb. 13 issue of the Jewish Chronicle of Pittsburgh and the Feb. 21 Waltham Daily News Tribune following appearances to discuss her book, Living in the Shadow of the Freud Family.

An article about Simmons's blended learning grant from the Alfred P. Sloan ran in the Feb. 11 edition of eSchool News.

The Feb. 21 Duxbury Reporter ran an article on the retirement of longtime Simmons swim coach Doug Backlund. The article also ran Feb. 26 on CollegeSwimming.com.

Communications Department Chair James Corcoran was quoted in articles in the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead and Dickinson Press (Fargo, N.D.) about the 25th anniversary of the shootout between tax protestor Gordon Kahl and U.S. marshals. Corcoran, who was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the shootout and the federal trial that followed, is author of Bitter Harvest: Gordon Kahl and the Posse Comitatus - Murder in the Heartland.

Assistant Professor of Education Russell Maguire was quoted in a Feb. 17 Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise article featuring high school students' views of "out-of-control" celebrities. Maguire said young people don't look at the "downside" of negative celebrity behavior.

A photo of recent MassBLAST interns appeared in the Jan. 23 Athol Daily News.  MassBLAST is a project of the Simmons library, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, and the UMass-Boston library in which high school interns work at libraries.

Simmons College was mentioned in articles in the Needham Times, Tewksbury Advocate, and Wellesley Townsman about the annual Belle of the Ball event.  Simmons is the site of the "boutique" for this April 26 event, which offers free gowns to local high school girls who otherwise couldn't afford them.

A photo featuring the Simmons School of Social Work's Dean Stefan Krug, Professor Hugo Kamya, and student Paula Garrant appeared in the Jan. 24 Peabody Weekly News. Garrant raised funds for her study-abroad trip to Uganda through activities at her child's school and at a local Girl Scouts troop.

Transfer student Stephanie Fox was featured in a Feb. 26 Springfield (Mass.) Republican article about her success as a Simmons basketball player.  Basketball coach Tony Price is quoted in the article.

The Feb. 17 Lawrence Eagle-Tribune included a feature story on Sabrina Sanchez, a high school senior who will attend Simmons next fall.
