Beginning in mid-January, articles appeared nationwide on a Simmons School of Management study which showed professional women are leading the way to a new career model for women and men, and are not "opting out" of their careers because of motherhood. Among the publications featuring the study results were the Chicago Tribune, The Australian, Wall Street Journal online, The Boston Globe, The Boston Business Journal, salon.com, Central Valley Business Times (California), Earthtimes.org, New England Cable News, WCVB-TV Channel 5, WBZ-TV Channel 4, and WPRI-TV (Providence/New Bedford). The Simmons School of Social Work was featured in a Boston Globe article on Jan. 23 on the emerging trend of middle-age professionals switching to social work careers. The story quoted two students from the Simmons School of Social Work, and the school's Interim Dean Stefan Krug. On Jan. 20, The Boston Globe also profiled School of Social Work Professor Hugo Kamya on his unique counseling work with immigrants.

Dean Diane Raymond was interviewed live Dec. 26 on the Lisa Birnbach Show about current attitudes toward protecting individual rights. The program is a three-hour talk show on national women's radio network Greenstone Media, founded last year by Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda.

Associate Professor of International Relations Zach Abuza was interviewed by several leading news agencies in recent weeks. He was quoted in a Dec. 22 Associated Press article about the increase in Thai Muslim insurgents, and was interviewed in a Jan. 2 Inter Press Service News Agency story about a series of bomb explosions in Bankok and which group could have been responsible. The Jan. 5 issue of U.S.News & World Report article quoted Abuza's writings on terrorism in Southeast Asia and Islamic insurgencies in Thailand.

Junior Darcel Hunt was among six people featured in a New Year's Day Boston Globe article about the increase in volunteerism in the U.S., "whose efforts help make Boston a better place." The story described Hunt's tutoring work with students at the Farragut Elementary School, and highlighted Simmons being named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll Program.

Africana Studies Professor Elizabeth Amelia Hadley was featured in a live in-studio interview with cable television's  CN8 Live! with Barry Nolan on Jan. 15. Professor Hadley discussed the gains made by African-American actors this past year.

Leanne Doherty, assistant professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in a Jan. 3 New Orleans Times-Picayune article (also picked up by the national Newhouse News Service) about the 2008 presidential race.

Simmons School of Social Work Lecturer Andrea Eliot was quoted in a January New England Psychologist article about Student Bodies, an online tool for young women at risk for eating disorders.

Career Education Career Counselor Meri Cayem was interviewed in a Dec. 17 Sunday Boston Globe article about parents who are too involved in their children's job hunting activities.

Simmons School of Management Professor Susan Sampson was quoted in a Dec. 22 Boston Globe article about retailers' final sales blitz to attract last-minute holiday shoppers.

Children's Literature program Lecturer Anita Silvey also appeared in the "Shelf Life" column of the Dec. 31 Boston Globe. Her recommendation of the children's book Black Duck was selected as the column's "pick of the week."

Simmons School of Health Sciences Dean Gerald Koocher was quoted in a Dec. 16 Boston Herald article in response to a reading event for schoolchildren that marketed the new Charlotte's Web movie. Koocher said that children are uncritical consumers who can be manipulated by such tactics.
