Commuter Students

Please note that Commuter Students are strongly encouraged to attend all aspects of the Orientation Program, including meals. Lunches and Dinners for Commuter Students will be provided at no cost to the student throughout Orientation.

Transitioning to a new environment is always challenging.  Commuter students have the added challenge of living off campus and not having the resources readily available. It can take more of an effort to become fully integrated into the community and build relationships when living off campus.

Orientation will help you to connect with resources, with your peers and with Simmons. Attendance at Fall Orientation Events is critical to a successful transition for all Simmons students, and even more-so for commuter students.

During Fall Orientation, you will have the opportunity to meet commuter and resident students in your Orientation group and at other Orientation activities.  We also will be hosting a Commuter Student Orientation during resident student move-in which will help you and your families learn about the various resources available for Commuter students, including discounted MBTA passes, transportation options, safety tips, and temporary Commuter Housing. This Orientation will also give you a chance to connect with other Commuter students.

In the evening on Sunday, September 4, 2011, we invite you to join members of the Commuter Student Organization for a dinner and social in the newly renovated Commuter Student Lounge. Throughout Orientation, all of your meals will be covered by the Office of Student Leadership and Activities; these meals provide you more time to get to know other students and become more acclimated to the campus. We also encourage you to stay for as many of the evening activities as you can.

Commuter Student Room

If you want to stay on campus during Fall Orientation, there is limited space available in the Commuter Room on the Residence Campus. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis for this room, so we encourage you to sign up early if you're interested in this space.  Normally, the fee is $25/night, but for Orientation attendees, this fee will be waived.  To learn more or to sign up for this space, visit the commuter room website and select "Commuter Room Application". Note: you will need to bring/provide your own linen (sheets, pillows, towels) for the room.
