Issues and Concerns

Because the Counseling Center serves the entire Simmons student population, the range of issues and concerns brought by students is as diverse as the range of ages, ethnicities, and spiritual and life choices of our students. No matter what level of education or academic program, worries and anxieties can surface for students, which may include:

  • Family, peer, and personal relationships
  • Academic performance
  • Homesickness
  • Isolation
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Coming out
  • Self-esteem
  • Sexuality
  • Partner violence
  • Cultural identity
  • Child Care
  • Eating problems/body image

Following an initial evaluation, your counselor will make recommendations about your options in managing these stressful concerns. On occasion, short-term counseling may be sufficient for problem resolution, in other cases a referral for more extended care may prove the most beneficial for you.

Your counselor may also recommend group counseling.

In either case, your counselor will assist you to find the type of counseling most appropriate for your individual situation.
