Kaitlyn Dipietro '17 on Being Management Liaison President

January 13, 2016

Kaitlyn Dipierto

Kaitlyn filled us in on the Management Liaison – and what it's like interning for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions!

What are you studying at Simmons?

I'm majoring in retail management and minoring in marketing.

What drew you to your major?

I've always had a love for the fashion industry. Growing up, I wanted to design wedding dresses. During my senior year of high school, I attended a fashion lab at LIM College in NY – that’s when I realized I wanted to study business. I may be a designer one day, but for now I'm focusing on going into corporate fashion and looking to own my own styling company.

Where are you interning?

I'm currently the Campus Ambassador Program Intern in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. In this position I work closely with admissions counselor, Erika Howe, running the tour guide program. I help manage emails to all of the ambassadors, create schedules and help out with large events like accepted students day.

What was the application/interview process like for your internship?

I've been a campus ambassador since January, 2014. When the intern position opened up, I was interested in exploring a new leadership opportunity. After filling out an application I was interviewed by Erika, as well as the current Ambassador Program Intern.

What's your favorite thing about your internship?

The Admissions staff! Everyone in my office is so friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand. Erika travels a lot for Admissions during the fall semester, so I was sort of thrown into the position. If I ever had a question or needed help with something when she wasn’t there, someone else was more than happy to help.

How did you get involved with the Management Liaison? What's it like being president?

I got involved with the Management Liaison my first semester at Simmons. As the co-student government association representative, I was given leadership as soon as I asked for it. My sophomore year, I became the vice president and now in my junior year I've become the president.

Words can’t describe how proud I am to be the president of the Management Liaison. My fellow executive board members are quite the strong team -- and our general members have some great ideas! I've really enjoyed the experience so far!

What skills have you gained as Management Liaison President?

Leadership skills of course, but also the value of a strong team, networking, learning how to keep people engaged and recognizing talent in a group of people. It's incredible to see so much talent in one room during meetings, so many ideas are always shared! I love being able to learn from others and this role has given me the ability to do so.

Do you have any plans for winter break?

I'll be home in Connecticut with my family. I have an 11-year-old sister at home who is my entire world – so I'll be spending a ton of time with her!

What made you choose Simmons?

I found Simmons by accident! I was touring other Boston schools and happened to walk through Simmons by mistake. As soon as I stepped foot on the academic campus, something just felt right. I did a little research, took a tour and fell in love! There was something about Simmons I couldn’t get out of my head. I wanted to go to a college that I knew would encourage growth and keep pushing me to do my best. Simmons was – by far – the best choice I've ever made for myself. Not a day goes by where I'm not thankful to be a Simmons student.

What's your Simmons moment?

One of my favorite things about Simmons is how everyone is constantly supporting each other. I've always had a passion for the fashion industry and have wanted to be a fashion blogger for a few years. Being at Simmons reminded me that I could do anything I set my mind to and succeed.

In March, 2015, I purchased BeThatBeauty.com and am now a blogger. My blog not only talks about fashion but trying to help people find their inner confidence, a message that is very close to my heart. Since purchasing the domain, I've launched the site and hired two Simmons students to be photographers. I’m doing something that I love and being supported by my peers, there’s nothing better than that!
