Bing Peng '16SM filled us in on her newest role as a Product Marketing Manager at Carbonite!

What drew you to the Simmons School of Management MBA Program?

My advisor at my  EF pre-MBA program told me about the Simmons School of Management MBA Program, which has great reputation and provides an excellent leadership management program for women. I visited the SOM multiple times, and was impressed by the women’s principled leadership learning environment. I was accepted into the Simmons MBA program and received two scholarships.

How did you know that Carbonite was the right fit for you?

I am very enthusiastic about high-tech and new technology, and have been in this industry for 7+ years.  Carbonite provides easy to use, secure and affordable online backup system to millions of customers. Carbonite is a great place to work, and it offers me great resource and opportunity to learn and practice my skills. The marketing team’s leadership management philosophy strongly resonated with me. Our VPs of marketing give us a lot freedom and find ways to encourage us to take ownership of our work. This is an essential to ensure we are delivering high-quality work on time. Culture is an another big thing for me. The marketing team takes good care of everyone’s needs. Also, people believe work should be fun, and we have lots of fun moments.

How did Simmons help prepare you for the role you have now?

Simmons helped me develop essential leadership skills, time management skills and negotiation skills. The SOM Career Services center was also very helpful; Agnes Ebbs, Georgette Arrato and Jade Dunn did wonderful job.

What was the job search like for you?

The Simmons alumni database on LinkedIn was very helpful in my job search process. I also regularly looked on Indeed.com for job listings in my field.

What is the best part of your experience thus far?

Working with great products is awesome! I am very excited to work with products with millions of users, and working with amazing colleagues to continue delivering value to customers. I also like the Carbonite culture, and the marketing team is awesome. People are smart and proactive, and want to make something happen. I am very happy to be part of this team.

What do you look forward to most in your career?

I want to stay in high-tech, and lead an amazing product in a leadership position. I’d like to work for a company that makes the world a better place, with tools, products and services, across technology channels including mobile, web, software, IT and robotics. Also, I’d love to help more young professionals who work or want to work in the high-tech field.

What advice would you give to the current Simmons students?

I would say, "Be curious and fearless." The world is big and everything is changing fast, we have to be very curious about everything around us, and not afraid to explore the world. Talk to people, read industrial articles, and attend events will be very helpful. Also, it’s always worth asking. I believe you should pursue your dream and never give up. This also has made me fearless in my decision making about my future.
