Crosby traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, representing Simmons at this dynamic conference.

In late October, Charlotte Crosby, a junior majoring in Business and Management, traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina to attend the Wells Fargo 2015 Leading Women in Financial Services Forum. The forum was for juniors in any major that have an interest in exploring a career in business and learning about the opportunities within the financial services industry.

Crosby became aware of the forum when she attended the Forté Foundation’s Fast Track to Finance Conference at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston this past Spring and signed up for their mailing list afterwards. "I had no idea what to expect, so I decided to attend with an open-mind and prepare myself for a new opportunity," Crosby admitted. "I packed the appropriate business casual and business formal outfits, printed several copies of my resumé and made sure not to forget my business cards."

The first two days of the conference allowed attendees the chance to learn about Wells Fargo and the different career opportunities within the company. There was ample opportunity to network with current employees and ask questions. On the third day, attendees interviewed for potential summer internships with the company. "Overall, this experience opened my eyes to wholesale banking as a career option," says Crosby.

Crosby noted that the final day of the forum was intense. "I had six back-to-back interviews with each of the departments I had the opportunity to learn about the day before. Most of the questions I was asked were behavioral based, however, a few were technical."

Crosby's courses greatly prepared her for the technical questions asked by the interviewers. "I am glad I had previously taken Financial Accounting, with Professor Mindy Nitken, and that I am currently enrolled in Financial Statement Analysis, with Professor Jane Mooney, because these courses really helped me with my responses."

When asked if Crosby has any advice for current SOM students, she stated, "I recommend you take every opportunity that comes your way, and be open-minded to different career possibilities. If you find yourself at a networking event, a panel discussion, or a forum, a key piece of advice is to be yourself, and not be afraid to differentiate yourself." She is hopeful that she will be offered a Summer 2016 internship with Wells Fargo.
