MBA student Monique Jackson '16SM gets digital with Stonyfield Yogurt.

Simmons MBA student Monique Jackson loves yogurt. She is interning in the Digital Marketing and Communications Department at Stonyfield, an organic yogurt company in Londonderry, New Hampshire. She uses inbound marketing techniques to align content with brand voice and persona analyses throughout Stonyfield’s digital marketing channels.

The internship at Stonyfield has given Jackson an opportunity to relate her work to her studies at Simmons. This summer, she is taking Marketing in the Social Media Age, where she is learning about the customer lifecycle and web analytics. She is using these concepts to fulfill a new vision for an integrated digital marketing strategy through research, design, content development and analysis.

Stonyfield has been a good fit for Jackson. She loves the office culture, which is supportive and laid back, with an endless supply of free yogurt, “There are a lot of laughs and an inherent willingness to help me learn and grow.” But the position does have its challenges, “The weekly commute from Boston to New Hampshire totals about 600 miles.” She battles traffic, the weather, and weariness, just to get to the job she loves.

Jackson was diligent and focused in her internship search. She had a standing meeting with SOM Career Services every Wednesday. She knew she wanted to find a company that not only promoted a positive and fun work environment but also was committed to promoting a healthy world and society. She connected to an SOM alumna at Stonyfield, which led to an informational interview, and, ultimately, the internship.

For students who are looking for internships, Jackson suggests, “Be transparent and honest about who you are. Make sure that not only do you fit the company, but the company fits you.”
