Assistant Dean recognized for her commitment to students
Dr. Em Claire Knowles, Assistant Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs, has been awarded the annual Beta Phi Mu Award, given "in recognition of the achievement of a library school faculty member or another individual for distinguished service to education for librarianship." Knowles has served as advisor to the Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Phi Mu, the International Library & Information Studies Honor Society, and will serve on the national board. She will receive the award at the annual conference of the American Library Association on June 25 in Chicago, during the ALA Awards/President's program.
In her award letter, she was told the following: "The award jury felt that your significant contributions to education in librarianship make you an exemplary recipient of this award. Of particular note are the decades you have spent actively working to diversify our profession through efforts such as the Spectrum [Scholars] Program, the countless students and alumni you have mentored and guided as they found their way in our field, and the impact your scholarship has had both nationally and internationally. It is clear that you embody the spirit of Beta Phi Mu award."
Congratulations to Dr. Knowles, for her continued support of SLIS students and the LIS profession.
