College Mourns the Passing of Undergraduate Sarah Poller

September 08, 2014

BOSTON (September 8, 2014) — The College community mourns the passing of undergraduate student Sarah Poller. Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Student Life Sarah Neill sent the following letter to the student body.

Dearest Simmons Community,

I write with a heavy heart to share the sad news of the death of first year commuter student, Sarah Poller. Sarah passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. As the Dean of Students, I am saddened by Sarah's short time with us and that we did not have the opportunity to get to know her better. Sarah had an interest in the Pre-Med track and intended to study Biology and Neuroscience. She was very engaged throughout orientation last week.

We are a close-knit community, and at times like these I am heartened that  we can find support in one another and take care of each other. Let us never take that for granted.

Sarah's family has asked that I share the below information about services:

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 9th at 1:00 pm at the Jewish Memorial Chapel located at 841 Allwood Road in Clifton, NJ. Interment will follow at the Menorah Cemetery, also in Clifton. Shiva and prayer services will be observed at the home of Rachel Poller at 1 Nieman Square in Marlboro, NJ 07746.

The Counseling Center is available as a resource providing individual support to students; it is located in the Palace Road Building, Room P-305 and can be reached at (617) 521-2455. They encourage students to take care of one another and seek out support from friends, family, and the Center during difficult times like these.

I know you will join me in sending our community's condolences to the Poller family during this incredibly challenging time.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Neill
Vice President and Dean for Student Life/Associate Provost
