Moms & Daughters Tackle Money Matters

February 25, 2015

Mother and daughter explore budgeting for spending and saving.

“Moms as Mentors” program explores financial empowerment.

This past Saturday, Feb. 21, the Simmons Institute for Leadership and Change hosted a second event with Moms As Mentors®, bringing moms and daughters to the Simmons College campus to explore financial concepts through fun and interactive activities.

During the morning program, moms and daughters in grades K-2 spent the day engaged in activities assessing “needs” versus “wants,” guessing careers of women based off of photos, and learning how to budget for spending and saving using mason jars and play money.

Simmons student Caitlyn Normand ’16 enjoyed the December event so much, she returned to volunteer.

This is the second of three Moms As Mentors events held at Simmons this year. The next event in March will be an encore of the first event, with a focus on science and engineering.
