Erica Howe

Erika works in Admissions at Simmons. She answered a few questions!

Where are you from? Where did you go to college?

I'm from Blandford, MA. I got my BA from Simmons in 2011. I majored in women's and gender studies and minored in organizational leadership. I got my MS from Miami University in 2013 in student affairs in higher education, concentration in leadership and administration.

What's your favorite thing about Simmons?

The faculty and staff. A huge reason I decided to come back and work for Simmons was because of the meaningful relationships I developed with faculty and staff during my undergraduate career. Everyone is so supportive of their students -- and all have such a passion for developing our students personally and professionally.

What's your favorite part of your job?

Working with prospective and current students. I love traveling around to various high schools in my territory and meeting so many amazing students who are interested in Simmons.

Additionally, I oversee our Campus Ambassador program, and am constantly blown away by how engaged and involved my students are both on- and off-campus. They make me proud to be a Simmons alumna!

What should students look for when choosing a college?

A good fit. It's important to take size, academic profile, majors/programs, financial aid/cost, location and campus culture into account when choosing a college. Take pictures on tours, bring a note pad to take notes about each school and pay attention to how you feel while you're on campus. It's a decision made by both the head and the heart.

If we visited your office, what would we see?

Mustaches! Mustaches all around! My mom gave me a package of stick-on mustaches, so I decided to place them around my office. In particular, you'll see a lot of sharks with mustaches.

There's a lot of color, small trinkets and a pair of slippers under my desk. As you can probably tell, I don't take myself too seriously. Work hard and have fun!

What's your favorite thing to do in Boston?

Eat and Run. Run and Eat.

I'm an avid runner and love to hit the pavement down the Esplanade along the Charles River. Boston is such a beautiful city and it's great to explore new areas while getting a workout in.

My love for running is out matched by my love for food. I run to eat, I eat to run. My favorite place to grab a bite to eat is in the North End. Nothing like some delicious Italian food, gelato and cannolis to power my next run!

What music are you currently listening to?

A little bit of everything. I listen to a lot of Frank Sinatra radio on Pandora, but also jam out in my office to Today's Hits, EDM music and even throw it back to Jock Jams Radio. Something that gets me moving and grooving is what I like!

Favorite book? Favorite movie?

My favorite book is Little Women and favorite movie is Hocus Pocus -- and yes, I do watch it year round.

Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?

Jennifer Lawrence. Who doesn't want to be her best friend? If I'm going for more mature actresses to play me in my elder years, I would vote Meryl Streep and Betty White. They can do no wrong.

What's your favorite local lunch?

Chipotle. Heavy on the guac.

What's your dream vacation?

I would love to hit each continent and explore multiple countries by running races and eating my way around the area. I'm not opposed to eating a cannoli while running around Italy.

Happy mind, happy body, happy belly!
