Of course you already know that cell phone etiquette is an important consideration in the work place; you shouldn't text while talking to your boss or have your phone ring loudly in a meeting. What about taking the last donut at the meeting? What should you order to eat at business lunch? How do you deal with "cube invaders" who won't let you get any work done? The In's and Out's of LinkedIn

By now you've probably heard of LinkedIn and maybe you even have an account, but do you really know the in's and out's of connecting with people and job hunting via LinkedIn? Do you know the difference between first, second, and third degree contacts or what Inmail is? Let the Career Resource Library help you figure out the best way to network, job hunt, and continue using LinkedIn after you've landed a job.

We have several resources that will help you figure out how to utilize LinkedIn functions for effective networking while following the proper online etiquette. Did you know in addition to being an excellent networking tool, using LinkedIn is also an excellent way to research companies? All company data is gathered directly from member employee's profiles rather than marketing departments so you're more likely to get real, unfiltered information. You can also ask questions about anything from job hunting tips to business travel advice using LinkedIn and get knowledgeable answers from working professionals. If you answer questions, you could be on voted one of LinkedIn's weekly top experts which will give you even more recognition and possible contacts. These are just a couple of the many ways you can use LinkedIn to further your career.

In keeping with celebrating Diversity Month, we thought here at the Career Resource Library we would highlight a special career niche - the international or travel career!

Students often talk about going abroad, either to study, intern, or for a job position. These are temporary experiences that many people find to be a great way to see the world and get to know new cultures. But perhaps you want even more than this... Do you see yourself as someone who will build a life around travel, whether in the U.S. or overseas? What kinds of careers afford these travel opportunities? Just how do you go about arranging to get paid to pack a suitcase and land in some warm, beautiful, exotic destination? How does it become your job to have some awesome adventure experience?

Do you wonder what you're going to do when you grow up? And if you are already grown up, do you still wonder what you're going to do when you grow up? This question is the personal nemesis of many people. Of all the thousands of possible things that you could do with your life, how does one decide?

Some approach this by looking at their talents, personality, or experience. Others like to see what job markets have the best to offer. For instance, you might want to check out this article, Best Jobs in America, where they've created a top 50 list based on several criteria. The current 10 'best jobs' at the top of the list are:

MassCIS The Massachusetts Career Information System is freely available to all Massachusetts residents and is a great place to get occupational information on hundreds of job types. You can also get information on training and educational opportunities throughout Massachusetts for any occupation that interests you. The site is easy to access and use. Simply create a username and password or else scroll down past the log-in boxes to choose your town and enter your zip code.

CareerOneStop This website is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor and is a source for employment, wages, and growth trends for oodles of occupations. Use 'Occupation Information' to create a profile for any occupation and state of your choosing. You can also see the Fastest-Growing Occupations, Occupations with the Most Openings, Occupations with the Largest Employment, and Highest-Paying Occupations.
