Careers that Travel

| Comments | No TrackBacks

In keeping with celebrating Diversity Month, we thought here at the Career Resource Library we would highlight a special career niche - the international or travel career!

Students often talk about going abroad, either to study, intern, or for a job position. These are temporary experiences that many people find to be a great way to see the world and get to know new cultures. But perhaps you want even more than this... Do you see yourself as someone who will build a life around travel, whether in the U.S. or overseas? What kinds of careers afford these travel opportunities? Just how do you go about arranging to get paid to pack a suitcase and land in some warm, beautiful, exotic destination? How does it become your job to have some awesome adventure experience?

To learn more about traveling careers, check us out at the Career Resource Library website and visit our Career Guide on International Work.

Want books? Visit our on International Work book section, including titles:

| Comments | No TrackBacks

Do you wonder what you're going to do when you grow up? And if you are already grown up, do you still wonder what you're going to do when you grow up? This question is the personal nemesis of many people. Of all the thousands of possible things that you could do with your life, how does one decide?

Some approach this by looking at their talents, personality, or experience. Others like to see what job markets have the best to offer. For instance, you might want to check out this article, Best Jobs in America, where they've created a top 50 list based on several criteria. The current 10 'best jobs' at the top of the list are:

  • Systems Engineer
  • Physician Assistant
  • College Professor
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • IT Project Manager
  • CPA
  • Physical Therapist
  • Network Security Consultant
  • Intelligence Analyst
  • Sales Director

Each job comes with a profile detailing why it's good, and what its drawbacks are. This article also has Top 10 lists for jobs with the Highest Pay, jobs with the Highest Growth, and jobs with that give you the Highest Quality of Life.

Whatever your approach to career decision-making, the Career Resource Library (CRL) has a lot of things to help you out. For instance we have compiled a Career Exploration Career Guide that contains some fabulous websites such as these:

MassCIS The Massachusetts Career Information System is freely available to all Massachusetts residents and is a great place to get occupational information on hundreds of job types. You can also get information on training and educational opportunities throughout Massachusetts for any occupation that interests you. The site is easy to access and use. Simply create a username and password or else scroll down past the log-in boxes to choose your town and enter your zip code.

CareerOneStop This website is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor and is a source for employment, wages, and growth trends for oodles of occupations. Use 'Occupation Information' to create a profile for any occupation and state of your choosing. You can also see the Fastest-Growing Occupations, Occupations with the Most Openings, Occupations with the Largest Employment, and Highest-Paying Occupations.

The Career Resource Library is located at One Palace Road, Room P304E. For Reference Appointments, give us a call at 617-521-2515, or email us as crl@simmons.edu.
