Printers, Copiers, and Scanners

Printers

Several printers are available for general use within the Information Commons, including both black & white and color printers. Use of printers in the library is governed by the Public Printing Policy.

Printing can be done from any computer in the Library, excluding the Express Web stations. Technology Desk staff will provide assistance with setting up wireless printing on a personal laptop.

Simmons College students, faculty, and staff are allotted $28.00 (equivalent to 400 black & white pages) for printing at the start of each semester. Each black and white printout will deduct $0.07 from this amount, and each color printout will deduct $0.77. Once the print quota has been exceeded, students, faculty, and staff can add money to their Simmons ID cards on the Fenway Card website. Guests and alumnae/i can obtain guest cards at any of the service points in the Library.

All Information Commons printers, excluding the color printer, print double-sided by default, and users are charged for only one printout per double-sided page. Technology Desk staff can provide instructions on how to print single-sided documents. More tips on how to make the most of one's print quota are available at Saving Paper (and Money).

Scanners

Scanners are located on Level G and Level 1 of the Library. Instructions for use are located at each scanning station and assistance is available at the Information Commons Technology Desk.

Photocopiers

Photocopiers are located on all three levels of the Library. All machines accept Fenway Card, while only certain machines accept cash.  Money can be added to your Fenway Card online or at the Campus Card Office in room E-007 in the Main College Building.  For assistance using the photocopiers, please visit the Circulation Desk.

Microfilm Reader

There is one microfilm reader on Level 1 of the Library near the Reference Desk.  There, you can read, scan, edit, print, email or save microfilmed material to a disk or network folder. Instructions for using the microfilm reader are located at the workstation and assistance is available at the Circulation Desk and the Reference Desk.

Media Viewing and Listening Room

The Media Viewing and Listening Room is located on Level G of the Library for viewing videos or broadcasts or for general use. The room has 21 viewing stations, each with a computer, DVD/VCR player, and access to Simmons broadcast television. Headphones are available at the Information Commons Technology Desk.
