Horn Book at Simmons
The Boston Globe--Horn Book Awards celebrate some of the best children's literature in three categories: Fiction and Poetry; Non-Fiction; and Picture Books. For the second year, Simmons is hosting a colloquium to bring together librarians, educators and children's literature professionals to examine the Boston Globe--Horn Book Award winners. Take a Stand Against Racism: Civil Rights Pioneers from 1828 to Present
Currently on display in Beatley Library, "Take a Stand Against Racism: Civil Rights Pioneers from 1828 to Present" highlights some of the influential people who sought to improve equality for all. Both well- and lesser-known pioneers are showcased: Sojourner Truth, Ida B. Wells, John Brown, Earl Warren, Ella Baker, Maria Elena Lucas and more. And while you're in the Library, raise your voice in support of this cause by signing the Stand Against Racism pledge which is located by the book display. Banned Books Week 2010 Display
The Library invites you to see our newest display in honor of Banned Books Week. Come and check out our display of famous titles that have been banned such as Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby, Huckleberry Finn and On the Road. The display also features many favorites and classics from children's and young adult literature. Banned Books Week is an annual event which celebrates the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Check out a book and make a stand for intellectual freedom!
