Elizabeth Scott, Ph.D.
Elizabeth Scott is Assistant Professor of Biology at Simmons College in Boston. She received her Master’s (1981) and her Ph.D. (1990) in Microbiology from King’s College, London University. Scott is co-director and founder of the new Simmons Center for Hygiene and Health in Home and Community Settings. She is an expert in hygiene practice in the home and in the community and consumer hygiene issues.
Scott has been a consultant to major international companies, including Levers, Procter & Gamble, Dial, Georgia Pacific, and Fleishman-Hillard, among others. She has published numerous articles in a variety of publications, such as Journal of Food Protection, Encyclopedia of Environmental Microbiology, Journal of Applied Microbiology, American Journal of Infection Control, and Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal. She co-authored the consumer guide How to Prevent Food Poisoning-A Practical Guide to Safe Cooking, Eating and Food Handling, published by John Wiley & Sons in 1998.
Scott is widely quoted in the press and has appeared in The New York Times (an article that was picked up by the wires and published nationally), The Washington Post, Houston Chronicle, Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, Sarasota Herald Tribune, “Good Morning America,” Fox News, and American’s Health Network. She is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Infection Control, and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Forum on Home Hygiene.
