Financial Aid for Undergraduate Students
Simmons prides itself on making its educational opportunities available to as many capable, promising students as possible and welcomes applications from students who cannot meet their educational expenses at the College without assistance. The staff in the Office of Student Financial Services strives to assist students that demonstrate financial need by providing institutional, federal, and state grants; loans; and work opportunities. The staff is committed to assisting students through the process and counseling students and their parents about financial options.
The College believes that the primary responsibility for educational financing belongs with the student and family. Financial aid eligibility is determined through the evaluation of a family's ability to contribute toward educational expenses. Simmons College and/or the Federal Government may award funds to supplement the family's ability to pay. At Simmons College, both academic excellence and financial need are used to determine a student's financial aid package.
To maintain financial aid eligibility a student must: demonstrate financial need, annually submit all necessary application materials by the requested dates, and be enrolled at least halftime (six credits), as well as maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined in the College's policy statement. Students who do not receive financial aid as incoming students are welcome to apply in a subsequent year but will be reviewed for assistance on a funds-available basis. Students must reapply for financial aid every year.
Application materials (FAFSA) are due by March 1. Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA each year by February 15th to ensure that it is received by the March 1 due date.
Financial Aid for Graduate Students
Limited grant aid is available based on academic excellence and/or financial need depending upon the funding levels of the individual graduate programs. Graduate students may qualify for a combination of Federal loans, institutional loans, and part-time student employment. Changes in enrollment affect financial aid eligibility. If the number of enrolled credits is reduced there may be a reduction in the financial aid award since costs will be less. Graduate students must maintain at least halftime enrollment status each semester (five credits) to qualify for any financial aid.
Student Accounts Receivable
Simmons College charges for tuition, fees and residence. Any prior balance must be paid in full each semester before a student may attend classes. Registration is complete and official when the student completes the registration forms and settles all charges.
Graduate students are urged to submit payment in full by the due dates stated in the registration materials, typically August 15th for the fall semester, December 15th for the spring semester and May 5th for the summer session. Undergraduate students must submit payment in full by August 1st for the fall semester, December 15th for the spring semester and May 5th for the summer session.
Tuition, residence and other fees are charged per semester. Students whose payments are received after the due date are charged an initial $100.00 late payment fee per semester. Students who do not settle their accounts prior to the first day of classes will accrue an additional $100.00 fee per semester. Students may have their schedules canceled and will have to select courses on a space available basis.
A fee of $20.00, in addition to the above late fees, will be charged for any dishonored check. Checks should be made payable to Simmons College and sent to Simmons College, Cashier, 300 The Fenway, Boston, MA 02115 or presented at the Cashier Window.
Simmons reserves the right to withhold services to students who have not met their financial obligations to the College by means of a Bursar's hold. Such services include mailing transcripts, grades, references and placement materials as well as the use of various offices and facilities. All College charges are payable by the applicable due dates or the late payment fees will be applied. If the College refers a delinquent account to a collection agent or attorney, collection costs and fees, plus administrative expenses will be added to the amount due and become the responsibility of the student.
Many students prefer to pay tuition and fees in installments and have found satisfaction with programs offered by a number of banks and other reputable financial agencies. Newly accepted students will often receive direct mail advertisement solicitations from such firms. Such arrangements should be made well in advance of the start of the academic year.
A student living on the Simmons College Residence Campus, who officially withdraws during the first four weeks of a semester, may, upon request and with the written approval of the Director of Residence Life, receive a pro-rated referral of room and board charges based on the date of official withdrawal.
Refunds of tuition and fees are subject to the current refund policy as stated by the College. Simmons College accepts tuition payment through MasterCard, Discover, Visa and American Express credit cards through the College website. A convenience fee will be charged for payments made by credit card.
