David Seaman

| Title: | Associate Librarian for Information Management, Dartmouth College Library |
David Seaman is Associate Librarian for Information Management at Dartmouth College Library, where he oversees digital library technologies, cataloging, preservation and records management activities. Prior to joining Dartmouth in December 2006, David was the Executive Director of the Digital Library Federation (DLF), a consortium of forty major academic libraries which identifies standards and best practices for digital collections and network access; which coordinates leading-edge research and development in the use of electronic-information technology; and which incubates projects and services that libraries need but cannot develop individually. David joined the DLF in 2002 from the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia Library, where he was the founding Director (1992-2002). In this role, he oversaw the creation and development of an online archive of XML and SGML texts and images, and worked closely with faculty on many innovative digital archives and projects. David Seaman has published and lectured extensively in the fields of humanities, computing, and digital libraries, in the U.S. and abroad, including invitations to speak in China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, and the UK. Since 1993, he has taught digital library courses at the Rare Book School at the University of Virginia.
