Jon E. Cawthorne

Title: Interim Dean, Library and Information Access: San Diego State University

Jon E. Cawthorne is currently Interim Dean of Library and Information Access at San Diego State University. He has been serving in this role since September, 2008. Prior to this appointment, Jon was responsible for all computing, public and technical services operations of the library on a diverse campus that supports 35,000 students. He holds an M.L.S. from the University of Maryland at College Park and a B.A. in English and Radio Communication from Evergreen State College. Prior to arriving at San Diego State, Jon worked at the Detroit Public Library briefly as the Interim Deputy Director and as the Assistant Director for the main library. Jon has worked in libraries at the University of Oregon, Ohio State University and the Congressional Research Service within the Library of Congress. Interested in leadership development throughout his career, he attended the Snowbird Leadership Institute, the Frye Leadership Institute and programs from ALA's Emerging Leaders and Association of Research Libraries' Leadership Career Development. Within the American Library Association, he serves on the Spectrum Advisory Committee and chaired the recent Lippincott Award committee. He remains active in Educause as a member of the program planning committee for "Information Futures: Aligning Our Missions" Seattle 2007. He also looks forward to attending the 2007 class of Senior Fellows at the University of California, Los Angeles.
