Michele Reid

Title: Dean of Libraries, North Dakota State University


Michele Reid was appointed Dean of Libraries at North Dakota State University in June, 2008. Previously, she spent six years as Director of Hoover Library at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, where, for two years, she also served as the College's first Chief Information Officer.

Reid earned a master's degree in library studies from the University of South Florida, a master's degree in medieval history from Rutgers University, and a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in history and Spanish from the University of Central Florida. She is an alumna of the HERS Bryn Mawr Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, and the ACRL College Library Section's New Directors Program.

She has published and presented on such topics as the academic library and its role in fostering civic engagement, technology applications in libraries, distance learning and information literacy.

Reid is active in ALA, ACRL (including the College Library Section, and now as Secretary of the Distance Learning Section), and LLAMA (including the Fund Raising and Financial Development Section). She is co-convener of the IFLA Women, Information and Libraries Discussion Group, and has served as a mentor in the ALA New Members Roundtable Career Mentoring Program.
